Niall Mellon founded the Niall Mellon Township Trust in 2002 - an Irish-led housing charity that now builds 5,000 homes every year for impoverished South Africans.
A serial entrepreneur from the age of 13, he went on to launch several successful businesses in the financial services, hotel and construction sectors. His commercial projects in the United Kingdom won him a lot of recognition, the most notable being an award for Best Urban Regeneration Project in the UK in 2006 for his development in City Park, Glasgow.
In 2009 he became the first foreigner to receive the 'Capetown Medal' and in February this year history was made when a law was passed in US Congress directing USAID to consider the Niall Mellon Township Trust for funding.
